ISP EAL Teacher Role Profile

 

Purpose of Role

Provide strategic development of APS’ EAL provision and oversight of the day-to-day operation of that policy with the aim of raising students with EAL needs to meet individual requirements that have been set out for them.

ISP EAL Teacher Key Responsibilities

  1. Pupil Support
  • Assess and support students with EAL and provide small group support to help them acquire and develop English language skills.
  • Have high expectations and commit to raising the students’ educational achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to raise standards by sharing effective practice.
  • Liaise effectively with parents or carers and provide support to targeted EAL pupils to raise achievement and enable them to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Identify the needs of students requiring extra support and support the development of individual targets and intervention plans.
  • Work in either one-to-one or small group settings with targeted students to help them to progress in terms of their EAL needs.
  • Lead small focus intervention groups in related to study skills, organisation, emotional wellbeing and motivation for EAL learners.
  • Provide extra support to students through knowledge of a range of activities and opportunities available to them.

 

  1. Administration
  • Maintain accurate student records and prepare written reports and evaluations.

 

  1. Other Expectations
  • Develop a range of study support activities, such as homework clubs.
  • Support the transition of pupils between phases.
  • Contribute to the development of activities to encourage family involvement in the school.
  • Participate in the school’s performance appraisal scheme fully and positively to develop and enhance personal and service performance.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties requested/assigned as required by the Principal or Senior Leadership Team (SLT) especially regarding the school’s administrative functions.
  • To ensure that school policies including those related to Safeguarding, Race Equality, Equal Opportunities, Code of Conduct, and Health & Safety are adhered to.

 

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Possess a degree plus teaching qualification or its equivalent.
  • TESOL, CELTA, TESMC or any other English Language teaching certification.
  • Evidence of continued relevant professional development experience desirable.
  • Previous EAL teaching experience in an international school required.
  • Experience in teaching learners with diverse language and learning needs required.
  • Ability to demonstrate using technology in learning.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in similar role.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English.
  • Highly motivated, takes initiatives, energetic, disciplined and responsible.
  • Passionate about teaching and learning with a genuine desire to work with peers and students.
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively with groups and develop a sense of community and generate trust.
